PROJECT 1

This project serves as a preliminary studies, which required students to explore and analyse basic "anatomy" of city, with references such as Kevin Lynch's Five Elements of City in his book "Image of a City".

Throughout this assignment, students able to identify and understand their site context in much in-depth aspects, like circulation, urban fabric etc. Observations and data were recorded and presented into 10 A3s. The site is Jalan TAR, Kuala Lumpur. Micro site situated as 2 shoplots next to Coliseum Cafe, which is a prominent landmarks in the local.

From the comprehensive study of the site, students are expected to propose a community library which cater for the local communities, which not more than 5 storeys.

My design intention is to create an intertwining, as i found that Jalan TAR as an in-between space, or a transitional space, between Jln raja Laut and Jln Masjid India, which has 2 distinctive characteristic. Both districts have their own pros and cons, but what i trying to do is to finding the users' needs and fulfill them in my library programmes.

My library will be served as a learning centre, in both formal and informal. It can be a proper, well-equipped library, but yet it has its own "fun" or informal elements.
