In a group of 5 - 6, students are required to identify a building in Asia with suburban context. Observations and readings on contemporary architecture will be carried out for in-depth research. Analysis aspects are including space organizations, access hierarchy, sky line, building form's features, building materials and systems, and image making elements (exterior). As an individual work, these analysis datas and informations will be present in an A2 board.
Our group decided to choose the masterpiece by I.M.Pei, Miho Museum which located at Shigaraki, Japan. The building successfully spoken its local language, with harmonious integration of modern idealogy and building materials. The translation from traditional farmhouse was obviously displayed from the building form, as well as the interior for user experience.

By using the same building that chosen in Project 1, we are required to identify a specific topic for our case study paper, hence, define the specific objective and scope of the study. Good research titles and questions will reflect the research intention, within the framework of contextual architecture and significance of study.
After the discussion, we decided to address "The adaptation of Japanese cultural approach to fulfill client's requirements on Miho Museum, Japan" as our case study paper topic.
Regarding to the title above, two main issues will be focus are Japanese culture and client's requirement/objective, which are prominent for design process and intention behind Miho Museum.

PROJECT 2
Contextual architecture, as the core principles for modern architects nowadays, to design a building that fits or respects to local elements, whether climate or cultural approach. It is crucial for designers to understand the social, historical background of the site and implied the design concept which blends well. This module provides such opportunity for students to expose and explore the true essence of contextual architecture, by carrying out in-depth research, observations, comparisons and analysis. Meanwhile, lecturers and tutor are playing important role to guide and provide useful informations for students to improve, refine and enhance their works.
