The very first assignment practices students' free hand sketching skill, by exploring the surrounding in the campus. Not just simply choose a site and sketch, but they have to capture the scene that show understanding of space:

-Solid vs void

-Light and shadow

-Scale and proportion

-Rhythm in Architecture

Throughout the assignment, I able to communicate with the reader through the drawings.  I learned how to apply the architectural theories such as human scale and proportion, solid and void, light and shadow and etc. that can create the drawing that giving the same perspective as we see from the real setting. It also a good chance for me to enhance my hatching skill to make the drawing more complete and realistic.

Same objective as assignment above, but this one was more focus on the depth and tone in a sketch. In the end of the assignment, students will learn how to create a drawing that in a right composition, and also the details that involved lines, and tones.
Students are required to sketch House of Kamakura and pratice their sketch in various hatching technique as below:

-Stippling

-Cross hatching

-One directional hatching

-Squiggling

It's been a good opportunity for me to create sketches that required different type of hatching technique. And i realized different hatching technique giving variation of feeling, but the difficulty and time spent as well. But anyway, the more time we spent, the more precise the work will be. The depth of tone creates the object in 3D form, on a 2D space, thats what the assignment aims to, as a visualization and communication tools in architectural field. This assignment helps me a lot in future to create the sketch that helps in rendering the picture in the client mind.

Students are given a building of Farnsworth House, and do the research on the building master plan. They need to demostrate the drafting method of architectural drawing by practicing their line weight, line composition, line quality, hand lettering and composition of plans in A1 tracing paper.

Drawings included:

-Floor Plan

-4 elevation plans

-2 sectional elevation plans

-Site plan

Communication skills

Really tough to complete this assignment, because it was my first time to use technical pen and we have to use to right line weight to visualize the depth of positioning of the details from the certain point of view. Other than that, I was first attempt with the architectural drawing that needs to be very precise to communicate with the reader. The drafting skill and symbols such as furniture and structural sign, been developed more throughout this assignment. Anyway, it's been a great chance for me to learn how to overcome the obstacle stated above.

By using the same building, students are required to explore and understand more about the building, including the construction details as well. In the end, they have to come out with an axonometric drawing that can explained all the parts involved in the building. By attending all the lectures, they will understand the steps to draft an axonometric drawing as well as the line weight, line composition, and etc.

REFLECTION

Before to start the axonometric drawing, I did a lot of research and pictures to see how Farnsworth House actually looks like and the construction details. Meanwhile, it's a practice for me to think logically about the spatial and proportion that been designed in the building. Same thing, I understand to utilise the different lightweight to visualize the depth of the space. This assignment trained me to be more aware of the small details, that may affects the spatial structure and the appearance.

By using the same building, students need to generate the perspective drawings, which are 1 point perspective and 2 points perspective. This type of drawing can illustrate the 3D form of the building and communicate with the viewer. By using the components, such as Picture Plane, Ground Line, Vashing Points to create perspective drawings (one point for interior, two points for exterior). From the different angle of viewing the building, may affects how the drawing will looks like, it can be either bird-eye view or worm-eye view in the 2 points perspective drawing.

REFLECTION

Perspective drawings, another new architectural drawings that i first time attempt, where normally i just do perspective drawings by sketching, but not from the projection of floor plans and elevation plans. It's new for me, but it still a great platform for students to bring out the "solid" building from the paper, and illustrate the building components on Farnsworth House. Since we project the perspective from a scale 1 : 100 floor plan, so the building might be very small. So, we are required to enlarge the drawings by 200 % to make it more visible on the details and for the ease of us to complete the drawing.

This final assignment collaborated with Design Studio 1project : designing hide out for community icon ( Nick Vujicic for me).

In the end, students are required to draw architectural drawing of their proposal.

REFLECTION

Finally, Design Communication this subject has been done. To come out with a proposal for Design Studio1 , I been thinking here and there for the best building, in term of technical (for design communciation architectural drawing) and design (for design studio1), and also consider about the materials used for the building. Somehow, the building might not too over or too "artistic", or else the master plan gonna be a challenge for me, even though just simple curve. This also my first time to use French curve to get the accurate and clean curve rather than just free-hand. And in term of materials, i did some research about it and applied into the drawings, that somehow needs some hatching to classify the material used. Throughout the whole subject, I understood how to utilise the appropriate line weight, line composition, line work, construction details that involved in the drawings.
