Students are given a building plan to work with. We are expected to demostrate our understanding of building services by proposing and designing appropriate systems for the building which includes:
-electrical supply system
-cold and hot water supply system
-sewage and sanitary system
-storm water and drainage system.

This assignment is a group project to perform an analysis on building services systems found in multi-storey buildings. Students will be introduced to systems that are used on bigger volume of spaces and variety of users. This exercise requires students to develop a design from their design studio project and incorporating the systems to the building. It is important for the students to understand the mechanism of the systems to produce a comprehensive and informative report.
Each group is required to choose one of the group member's design scheme from Sem 4 Design Studio project, which is Centre for the Elderly. Each group is to perform a thorough study and analysis of the following services systems associated to the building:
-Mechanical ventilation
-Air-conditioning system
-Fire protection (Active and passive)
-Mechanical transportation

As a conclusion, this module taught me plenty of knowledge from building services, that architects are responsible to think of it and how does it affect the architectural design. Building services are the factors and components that behind the design, and it is enhancing the user experience in a certain building or premise. Other than that, I learnt the provisions or rules and regulations such as UBBL that help designers to decide some issues, such as minimum and maximum dimensions for staircase, which is important to us.
