Students are given a site to conduct an analysis of modern architecture chronology. Eventually, they are required to product a chronology reveolution timeline of the particular site.
For our group, which under tutor Ms.Ida, we were chosen to do Klang.
My group is Group E, which in charge of covered area (Jalan Istana to Jalan Kota Raja)
REFLECTION
After the completion of this project, i learned how to identify the year of built of the specific building that exists in Malaysia from their significant features or architectural details that can be seen from facade, even interior. Walk through the building, touch the surface of the building, i can feel the years of the building encountered, and sadly, nobody takes an action to raise public awareness on heritage building around Klang area. Those buildings not just a symbol for particular era and architectural style, but its about the evolution and improvement of human life through generations. Some of the buildings still remain their function til today, which is good to reserve the historical building that can tell stories to societies.
Students are required to choose a building that is built during Modernism era, or after Malaysia Independence. Since that, they have to collect datas from the site by taking picture and do research on their own topics, such as site analysis, architectural style, architectural elements etc.
My group choose Stadium Merdeka.
Throughout the project given, I would say it was an unforgettable experience to visit Stadium Merdeka because i never been there and it was impressive to see the actual architectural details such as their significant cantilevered roof and prestressed concrete floodlight lamp tower, from the books or Internet. Another thing is i can feel that adrenaline and heat when all of the Malaysian were waiting for freedom from colonisation, and that moment in Stadium Merdeka was crucial for all to get independence for a nation, an annotation of a new country birth. Other than that, modern technology aids a lot in bringing fast construction process so that Malaysia Independence can be carried out on time. I think all of Malaysian should remember that moment, and architecture is a space that gather all the people and celebrate the events by the form within.
