In a group of 5 , students required to select the design of one of the members in studio 3. Working in a group, we are required to re-design the roof of that building by using truss designs. By using any material of our choice, construct the model of the design. The size of the model must be appropriate to fil well on an A3 board.

Meanwhile, there is an individual exercise for each of the students to carry out. An A4 report is expected to be produced with analysis on given truss, with calculations and diagrams.

PROJECT 1

This project is an integrated component where it involves structural theories, force calculation and basic structural proposal. This project is designated to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of building structure.

The assignment is divided into two parts, whereas the first part should be done as a groupwork, while the second part is an individual work. As a group, 2-storey bungalow should be designed with following spaces:
-1 master bedroom with bathroom

-min 3 bedrooms

-kitchen

-living room

-dining area

-1 store room

For individual work, each of the students are required to analyse beam (with different types of load applied, such as UDL and PL) and column.

REFLECTION

Throughout the module, it is very useful and crucial for students to explore and expose to the importance of building structural components, which eventually converts our design and desires into a buildable idea. From the calculations, we can understand how the structures work from integrity and stabilty, which are important for architects to design in logical way.
